God has provided the Bible to squeeze the sin out of our lives. Psalms 119:11: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Someone shared with me recently that middle age is when we stop growing on the ends and start growing around the middle. If we don*t hide His word in our hearts daily there will be more room for sin in our lives on the days we neglect it. We will have unattractive bulges around our inner man. We will cover the beautiful work of God within us with the ugliness of sin. We will hide His righteousness behind our sin. 2 Corinthians 4:16: For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. Christians need a God who never changes but who washes away their sin and renews them day by day. If we are alive unto God, it is freakish to sin and not to grow spiritually. We Christians seem to grow in fits and starts and even slide backwards at times. We seem to sometimes grow the wrong way. But God renews us day by day. He prunes us, chastises us and corrects us. The first thing that must be changed is our inner man. We must have Christ in there. Without him there can be no day by day renewal. We must be newed (forgive my making up a word.) before we can be renewed. Colossians 1:27: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Christ in our inner being will ALWAYS fulfill His responsibility. But it is up to us to bring Him into our lives and keep Him there. We can make more and more room for Him by sinning less and less. Part of a prayer by Peter Marshall: Our Father . . . Convict us of our share of personal responsibility for the situation in which we find ourselves. May we confess our part in creating our dilemmas, lest we feel no obligation to solve them. Help us to quit waiting for the other fellow to change his attitude and his ways, lest we never give Thee the chance for which Thou hast been waiting to change us. . . . |
